I believe as companies and individuals we need to re-evaluate our viewpoint on crisis.

Crisis Management is a term that is used frequently to describe how a company or household executes against a defined plan for a defined crisis with a desired outcome that benefits the company or the household and effectively completes when the crisis is over.

We should alter our thinking to be more along the lines of Crisis Leadership.  I define Crisis Leadership as all of Crisis Management and the ability to draw others into an alliance that benefits the community at large and provides innovative ideas that act as a beacon of hope about a future outside the current crisis.

If you think of it from a historic point of view, Crisis Leadership is what founded our country.  From a business perspective it is what created great companies with a lasting legacy.

If that context is too broad, look at your home, family, and friends.  Who among your support network is practicing Crisis Management? Who among your support network is practicing Crisis Leadership?  Which one are you practicing?

Make no mistake, we are all leaders in some way for some constituency.  For the people you lead, practice a little Crisis Leadership.  I promise it will change how your network views you and it will add to your legacy.
